Welcome to one of the many choices for a perennial cornflower- Centaurea 'Jordy' for today's 🫖Elevenses!🫖

Adored by pollinators and gardeners alike this is a deep plumy scarlet purple with delicate fine-cut petals. This robust little number will flower usually twice a year- Huzzah! 🥂

Place in some sun and decent drainage, this plant will romp away growing to around 60cm wide and high, ready to be split to create more purple-blooming plants as it matures- in fact if you have any perennials you want to lift and divide, now is the time!

Today's 🫖 Elevenses 🫖 guest star is this luscious little number- Pachysandra terminalis 'Green Carpet'- a ground-hugging sub-shrub with glossy leaves catching any light that makes it to a shady spot and creating a beautiful carpet of green. 🌱

From almost full sun to deep shade this small but mighty textural delight can take most soils as long as they aren't very dry or water-logged. Useful for those shady spots and for creating a weed-suppressing carpet. 🌱

What is with all that latin?! Well, to the horticultural and landscape industries, it is important to get the exact plant you are looking for, and not a variation on a theme 😉🌱

Latin, or Botanical names, mean that no matter who we are talking to, which region or even country we are in, that we are talking about the same plant. This is important because, for example, there are a couple different blue cornflowers out there, but one of them will come back every year (perennial) and they other might do only if the seeds are successful (annual).

So there you go. I may not take myself too seriously, but I do take horticulture seriously. 🌱

Bursting forth with bountiful blue blooms in early summer this scrambling Californian Lilac Ceanothus thyrsiflorus var. Repens is our generous friend for today's 🫖 Elevenses🫖

In as much sun as you can give it this glorious wall shrub with provide a plethora of blue blooms, and the glossy leaves are a fabulous background! She enjoys good drainage, is another H4- so keep it somewhere with a bit of winter warm- off the ground or against a wall. What a smashing doorway partner! 🌱
