Freelance Garden Design Support / Associate Garden Designer

Vectorworks essential | Freelance | Remote-first with occasional site/studio work desirable

Hine Garden Design is looking to build a working relationship with a thoughtful freelance garden designer, associate designer or design assistant to support our residential garden and landscape design projects. We design refined private gardens and landscapes with a strong focus on proportion, atmosphere, planting, material quality and the way a garden is experienced over time. The role would suit someone who is technically capable, highly organised, visually sensitive and able to work carefully within an established studio style. This is not a client-facing role to begin with. Creative direction, client communication and final sign-off would remain with the in house team. The right person would support the design process behind the scenes, helping to develop and produce clear, elegant and accurate design information.

The role may include:
     • Vectorworks drawing and drafting
    • Base plan set-up and drawing refinement
    • Planting plan support
    • Construction details
    • Mood boards and material palettes
    • Presentation document preparation
    • Plant, material and product sourcing
    • Drawing revisions and general design package support
    • File organisation and project documentation

About you:
You may be an experienced freelance garden designer, a technically strong design assistant, or a more junior designer with excellent Vectorworks skills and a sensitive eye for high-end residential design. We are open to different levels of experience, but the following are essential:
    • Strong working knowledge of Vectorworks
    • Access to your own suitable computer and licensed software for freelance work
    • Excellent attention to detail
    • Good communication and reliability
    • A calm, organised and professional approach
    • An understanding of refined residential garden design
    • Sensitivity to proportion, restraint, planting atmosphere and material quality
    • The ability to follow a clear brief and work within an established design language
Experience with planting plans, construction detailing, SketchUp, Adobe/Canva/InDesign-style presentation documents, or high-end private residential projects would be an advantage.

Working arrangement:
This would initially be a freelance, project-by-project arrangement, likely averaging around 1-2 days per week, with some natural fluctuation depending on project stage.
The role can be remote, although the ability to attend occasional site visits or working sessions in Bedfordshire and the surrounding counties would be an advantage.
For the right person, there may be scope for a more regular freelance relationship or a employed permanent position in future.
