This garden had a large existing patio looking for an identity. The stunning listed property had a deal a work put into the house itself and an existing patio had been overhauled by the builders. We were asked after the build to come in a design a space with and identity that provided subtle yet effective demarcation of the spaces. Giving the space clear uses with plant pots for the most part.

We started the process by mapping our the spaces and areas required by the client, almost creating rooms on the paving surrounding this property. Using images to help make sense of the plans, with colour coded plant pots and plant imagery helped to covey the story of the spaces more readily.

This garden is awaiting its build, we look forward to seeing it realised.

The journey

A corridor was created from the entrance to the garden along the building towards the dining area and the Kitchen entrance. Large statement pots that compliment the stately home, giving visitors a clear direction to move in. The planting also offers protection from the elements in this exposed location and interest through the seasons.

The space around the dining area brings together all the different styles of planters providing a relaxed and less stringent aesthetic, and tying in all the may other areas or ‘Rooms’.

Circular containers used around the guest house separates it from the entrance gate and identifies it from the garden proper.

Conversely the square containers make the circular fountain stand out and again aids in the separation of the entrance way from the guest area.

A Fountain provided this courtyard entrance with a focal point, making a statement from the driveway through the beautiful iron gates to the view beyond, made from stone in keeping with the style of the property.
